Cape Town, South Africa will host WEEF-GEDC 2020. The winning bid was made by the South African Society for Engineering Education, represented in IFEES by Debby Blaine, and the University of Pretoria, where GEDC member Sunil Maharaj is dean. One proposed theme is Engineering for the Sustainable Development Goals; however, the theme and other details will be finalized later in 2019. The South African bid had been selected as one of two finalists, with leaders also considering a joint bid from University of New South Wales, Western Sydney University and the Australasian Association for Engineering Education. IFEES and the GEDC received a total of six bids from five countries to host the joint IFEES-GEDC event in 2020.
