As we fight the COVID-19 Pandemic across the world, the seminal role of engineering education, research and development, innovation and design, in achieving sustainable human life on the planet is more obvious than ever.
Students in most, if not all, engineering schools and colleges need to complete internships outside of their institution. These are mostly conducted as part of university-industry collaborations, sometimes at other academic institutions and research labs, heavily in the summer terms or winter breaks.
Nowadays, most workplaces have transitioned to the work-from-home regime. Most companies have either canceled their internship programs, or, are offering limited numbers of virtual internships.
As the GEDC, we would like to offer all of our students at our member institutions the
GEDC Virtual Internship Program that will facilitate and coordinate internship opportunities and student placement — getting our GEDC members closer together, helping one another, during this crisis with one of the most important tasks (and now a big challenge) of providing our students with the opportunity to be global and have a global experience — Through the GEDC Virtual Internship Program, students at our member institutions will be able to work, learn, and exchange with teams and mentors across the globe.
