SUMMARY:Global EPICS Symposium and Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Purdue by csm242000 Photography via Flickr Creative Commons \nEPICS is an engineering-based\, service-learning approach to multi-disciplinary design where student teams address needs within their local and global communities. Founded at Purdue University\, EPICS has been integrated into the curricula at 42 universities and colleges. EPICS in IEEE\, a signature program of IEEE\, empowers students to work with local service organizations by applying technical knowledge to implement solutions for a community’s unique challenges. \nThis year’s gathering will bring together three groups for a synergistic set of workshops\, panel discussions and roundtables. These three groups are: \n\nNew Faculty\, instructors; staff professionals; IEEE volunteers and members; industry partners and others interested in learning about the EPICS model for Engineering/Computing-based Service-Learning and Community Engagement\nExperienced EPICS leaders\, faculty\, instructors\, administrators\, students and partners from the member institutions of the EPICS Consortium\nInternational EPICS leaders\, faculty\, instructors\, administrators\, students and partners especially from India including our IUCEE-EPICS institutions\n\nThe symposium and workshop have special slots for each group (Monday for those new to EPICS\, Thursday and Friday will focus on India). Tuesday and Wednesday will be a mix of interactions between groups with opportunities for discussions around common interests. \nHow You Benefit \n\nGain a better understanding of engineering-based community engagement\nSee examples of ways EPICS can be integrated into course curriculum and capstone projects\nDevelop the skills to gain institutional support\, acquire community and industry sponsors\, establish funding models and build a sustainable program\nGain insights from experienced leaders on how to engage students; identify\, create and sustain projects; and conduct student assessments\nNetwork with established EPICS colleagues as well other interested facility members\, industry and community leaders\nLearn how to make connections globally across programs\nLeave the workshop prepared to put what you learned into practice in order to grow\, institutionalize or establish an EPICS program at your institution\n\nSymposium website >>

DESCRIPTION:New Orleans\, Louisiana by Pedro Szekely via Flickr Creative Commons \nASEE’s annual Engineering Deans Institute (EDI) provides an opportunity for engineering deans- and only deans- to gather and discuss the crucial issues facing their schools\, colleges\, and profession. For a few days\, a single-stream program fosters dialogue between deans\, industry leaders\, and those in important roles in research and government. Deans share best practices\, learn about career prospects for their graduates\, and develop a voice for engineering education and the role of engineering in society. Social activities and plenty of time for conversation encourage the cultivation of relationships and an intensely rewarding experience. EDI is sponsored by the ASEE Engineering Deans Council and its Executive Board.

SUMMARY:Webinar: The Future of Credentials in Engineering Professional Education (IACEE)
DESCRIPTION:March 22 at 15:00 UTC \nPresenter\nDr. Nelson Baker \nJoin IACEE for a lively conversation with a thought leader in the field of professional education to explore the future of credentials. Rapid developments in science and technology produce new knowledge faster than other disciplines. This has resulted in a shorter lifespan for the traditional college degree\, warranting continuing professional development and causing a proliferation of micro and alternative credentials. Do we all mean the same thing when we talk about these credentials? Have the new credentials changed our hiring practices in higher education? Are there any strategies for success as institutions plan for this future\, where credentials are unbundled\, learners face a variety of options\, and learning is lifelong? \nRegister >>\nMore Details >>

SUMMARY:Emerging Economies Summit (Times of Higher Educaton & Qatar University)
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Filipe Fortes via Flickr Creative Commons \nThe Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Summit 2019\, in partnership with Qatar University\, will bring together leaders from the most significant research universities in the world’s emerging economies\, as well as policymakers and industry executives\, to share and advance understanding of the opportunities and role of research universities to secure their future and play a key role in their nation’s development. \nAs mature economies realign after the 2008 financial crisis\, emerging markets have risen to account for more than half of the global economy and the vast majority of global growth. An important question now for university presidents in these countries is how best to secure and sustain their institutions through the formation of international partnerships\, production of graduates and research innovation. At the same time\, national leaders are attempting to create the optimum stable environment for their universities to flourish\, in an effort to maintain economic growth and educate more students than ever before. \nCan higher education institutions in emerging economies benefit from high rates of growth to enable them to further progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals? Can they entrench their social value so that they can be resilient against potential risks posed by future global environmental or financial instability? Can technology enable new models of institutions to develop that will be stronger than those of the 20th century? Join world-class experts from across the globe in Qatar to examine these questions and more. \nSummit website >>
