Raising the bar
International Women in Engineering Day 2018 (#INWED18) takes place annually on 23 June and is an international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in this exciting industry as well as celebrating the outstanding achievements of women engineers throughout the world.
For 2018, the theme for INWED is: Raising the bar. INWED is keen to get as much participation from peers across the globe to raise awareness of women in engineering and would love for our global community to participate! Here are some ideas for you to engage with #INWED18 and help us with #RaisingTheBar for women in engineering all over the world:
- Follow INWED on Twitter and use the hashtag #INWED18 in your social media communications
- Download the #INWED18 Resource Pack for a wealth of ideas, information and tips on running some activity for INWED
- Download the Media Kit to gain advice on how to promote your event and how to engage with the online #INWED18 campaign
- Organise a lecture or networking event
- Organise an industrial visit
- Open your doors to local school children and parents, with an emphasis on encouraging girls to attend
- Form a link with your local schools and colleges, and develop a long-term relationship to promote the skills you need to girls
- Attend a school parents’ evening and tell them about the engineering opportunities you have
- Organise a women’s networking or mentoring event to celebrate INWED
- Set up a women’s membership group and appoint a Diversity & Inclusion Officer
- Launch a women’s network or arrange a social event for women engineers
- Post a photo on Twitter of yourself at work, this will go into our photo gallery of women engineers
- Publicise your support for women engineers through promoting female role models
