Avneet Hira is a Ph.D. candidate and Bilsland Fellow in the School of Engineering Education at Purdue University. She holds a B.E. in Aeronautical Engineering and an M.S. in Aerospace Systems Engineering. Her dissertational research focuses on the educational potential of Makerspaces. Her scholarship in engineering education is inspired by her ideology to make engineering and its education more just, upholding ideals of equity and access. She is actively involved in several engineering education societies and research venues. This year she finishes her tenure as the President of the Student Platform for Engineering Education Development (SPEED), an international non-profit organization that provides students a voice to affect change in engineering education. SPEED was founded in 2006 and has witnessed active participation from close to 1500 students from over 15 countries. Prior to being elected as President, she held the office of Vice President – Educational Content in SPEED.
